No fewer than 174 candidates have been presented by 12 political parties for the 2027 Ekiti State House of Assembly election, according to documents released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ekiti State office.
The figures contained in the document obtained by the Nigerian Tribune and signed by the Ekiti State Legal Officer I of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Sina Ogundana, identified as Form EC9, show that while some political parties have fielded candidates in all 26 constituencies across the state, others are contesting only a handful of the available seats.
Ekiti State has 26 seats in the House of Assembly, spread across its 16 Local Government Areas, setting the stage for a multi-party contest ahead of the 2027 legislative election.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Nigeria Democratic Party (NNPP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) emerged as the parties with the widest spread, each presenting candidates for all 26 seats.
The Action Peoples Movement (APM) fielded 19 candidates, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has eight candidates. The Labour Party (LP) is contesting five seats.
Others on the list are the Action Alliance (AA), with four candidates; Action Democratic Party (ADP), with three; Young Progressives Party (YPP), with three; and Accord, which fielded two candidates.
The figures suggest that the 2027 House of Assembly election in Ekiti is likely to witness a significant spread of political competition, particularly in constituencies where more than one major political party has presented candidates.
With five parties — ADC, APC, NNPP, NDC and SDP — fielding candidates in all 26 constituencies, voters across the state’s 16 local government areas are expected to have multiple choices on the ballot.
The development marks another important step in preparations for the 2027 legislative elections, with political parties now positioning their candidates for what is expected to be a keenly contested battle for representation in the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
