** GAUTENG** – An intelligence-led OR Tambo drug bust has resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old South African national and the seizure of suspected heroin with an estimated street value exceeding R2 million. The South African Police Service (SAPS), supported by the Border Management Authority (BMA), intercepted the suspect upon arrival at the international airport, marking a continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking at this major port of entry.

According to SAPS and BMA officials, the 52-year-old suspect had just arrived on a flight originating from Accra, Ghana, when authorities intercepted him at the airport on Sunday, 20 September 2026. A subsequent search of the individual’s luggage led to the discovery of bullet-like objects and blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin.

This latest apprehension brings the total number of suspected drug mules arrested at this specific port of entry to three within the past three weeks. Authorities emphasize that the operation was intelligence-led, highlighting ongoing collaborative efforts between law enforcement and border control agencies to disrupt illicit drug networks.

Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court later this week to face formal charges related to drug trafficking.
