A suspect arrested for alleged child trafficking has accused a woman identified as Madame Nkechi of asking her to pick up children found roaming the streets and bring them to her in exchange for compensation.
In a video shared by Channels Television, the suspect made the allegation while confessing to her involvement in the alleged crime after she was arrested alongside other suspects by the police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to her statement, she met Nkechi last year and was given her phone number. She claimed that Nkechi asked her to work with her by picking up any child she found roaming the streets and bringing the child to her, promising to reward her for doing so.
Another suspect, who said she worked as a cleaner in Nkechi’s home, also explained her role in the alleged operation. She claimed that Nkechi sent her to Onitsha to deliver a baby to a woman.
The FCT Commissioner of Police reportedly disclosed that the suspects had previously been convicted in 2024 and served a four-month jail term before their release.
However, they were allegedly arrested again for returning to the same crime, with two additional suspects apprehended during the operation.
In his words, “I just met Madam Nkechi last year; she gave me her number and asked me if I could work with her, like if I see any child roaming the streets and pick her up, that she has an orphanage. I should bring the child, and she’s going to compensate me.”
