Assistant Director II Receives GH₵4,200 Monthly, Yet Someone Receives Same In A Day Meeting – Obenfo

Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools, has raised concerns over the difference between government workers’ monthly salaries and allowances paid for attending meetings amid the ongoing teachers’ strike.

During an interview with Onua TV on September 28, 2026, Gyetuah described it as unfair that an Assistant Director II at the Ghana Education Service receives about GH₵4,200 after working for a month, while the same amount may be paid to another person as a single meeting allowance.

He said the situation highlights possible problems with the allocation of public resources and could affect the motivation of education workers.

He noted that teachers carry out demanding responsibilities such as classroom teaching, lesson planning, grading and supporting students, which require appropriate compensation.

The private schools council executive also questioned how outstanding payments owed to teachers are being managed.

He claimed that some workers lack proper documentation showing unpaid salaries and allowances, making it challenging for them to verify and recover the money owed to them.

His statements come amid continued strike action by teacher unions over unpaid financial commitments. Although discussions were held between union representatives and the Ministry of Education on September 28, teachers have maintained that their outstanding payments must be resolved before resuming teaching duties.

The dispute has brought renewed attention to issues surrounding teacher welfare, payroll systems and the impact of prolonged strikes on students.

Continued interruptions may affect academic progress, especially for learners preparing for important examinations.

Gyetuah has therefore joined calls for transparent payment records, faster resolution of legitimate arrears and a fair remuneration system for education professionals.
