ONE person died and three were injured in a bus accident on the Great East Road in Rufunsa District on Sept. 6, 2026 around 12:20 hours, police have confirmed.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the Yaxing bus, registration AIF 9348ZM, was travelling from Lusaka to Chipata with 54 passengers. 26 were pupils from Mbwindi Secondary School in Sinda.
Preliminary findings show driver Francis Chisanga, 35, was overtaking when another vehicle allegedly swerved into his lane. He lost control and hit trees.
Passenger Shadrick Mukuka, 27, died in hospital. Chisanga and two passengers were injured. 51 people escaped unhurt.
Police have urged motorists to avoid speeding and overtake safely.
