NDC Rejects Obi-Kwankwaso Campaign Council

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council announced by the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, saying the structure was not authorized by the party.

The party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday, directing the public and the media to disregard the campaign council.

The OK Movement, a support group backing NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had unveiled the 59-member council on Thursday. The structure included zonal and state coordinators as well as directors responsible for mobilization, women’s affairs, strategy, security, and legal affairs.

The movement named John Ughulu as Director-General and Saadatu Sani as secretary of the campaign council.

However, the NDC said only its leadership, with approval from the National Working Committee, has the authority to constitute and announce an official Presidential Campaign Council.

The party also referred Ughulu to its disciplinary organ over what it described as his “excesses” during the Lagos State primary election and repeated disregard for party authority.

The NDC acknowledged the role of support groups but warned that they must not operate as alternative or parallel structures of the party.
