The latest strike came amid continued exchanges of long-range missiles and drones between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with both sides maintaining attacks despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict.
The attack also occurred against the backdrop of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire ahead of an expected visit by United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Witkoff and Kushner are President Donald Trump’s lead negotiators in efforts to broker an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump has said the two envoys have presented a proposal aimed at breaking the diplomatic deadlock and advancing negotiations towards ending the conflict.
The latest casualties highlight the challenges facing efforts to secure a ceasefire, as Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to exchange long-range missile and drone attacks.
