American defense contractor L3Harris has said it is transforming the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s legacy C-130s fleet into modern, mission-ready assets, extending the aircraft’s operational life by decades and delivering advanced digital capabilities at a fraction of the cost of replacing the fleet.
The company has completed inspections on the first Moroccan military C-130 aircraft in the modernization program, marking an important milestone. The aircraft is undergoing maintenance and repairs at L3Harris’ facility in Waco, Texas, including a new standby instrument and digital engine display upgrade.
The program continues to gain momentum with induction of the second aircraft planned for this fall, followed by a third aircraft later this year that will receive a full avionics upgrade, including a complete digital cockpit.
These inductions demonstrate the program is moving from contract award into execution, turning modernization plans into operational capability.
The work performed in Waco includes aircraft modifications, program depot maintenance, engine overhaul and logistics support, enabling aircraft to spend more time flying missions and less time in maintenance, and to remain operational for decades beyond their originally expected service life.
In July 2025, L3Harris was awarded a multi-year contract to modernize multiple Royal Air Force C-130 aircraft. The program supports Morocco’s effort to sustain and modernize its legacy airlift fleet, ensuring the aircraft remain mission-ready for years to come.
