Arsenal are closing in on an agreement with Hamburg for the permanent transfer of midfielder Fabio Vieira, with negotiations over a €10 million (£8.6m) deal at an advanced stage.
Hamburg are keen to complete the signing before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, while Arsenal are increasingly confident that a deal can be concluded with the Bundesliga club.
Vieira, 26, spent the recently concluded season on loan at Hamburg, making 29 league appearances and scoring seven goals.
The spell in Germany was the Portuguese midfielder’s second loan move away from Arsenal. He previously returned to former club Porto on loan during the 2024-25 campaign.
Vieira joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for an initial fee of £34 million, but struggled to establish himself as a regular in Mikel Arteta’s side.
During his time at the Emirates Stadium, the attacking midfielder made 47 appearances in all competitions, with only five of those coming as Premier League starts.
With Vieira no longer prominent in Arteta’s first-team plans, Arsenal have been working to secure a permanent departure, and Hamburg now appear close to making his move to Germany permanent.
A successful deal would bring an end to Vieira’s four-year spell in north London and allow Arsenal to recoup a portion of the sizeable investment made in the Portugal international.
