No Paperwork Needed: Digital Transactions Can Build a Credit Profile, Binance Says

Binance, the world’s leading blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency exchange, is building a financial super app for Africa, helping users establish the kind of financial profile that could, over time, support access to credit. Just as Africa moved straight to mobile phones without waiting for fixed-line networks and straight to mobile money without waiting for a bank branch to open in every town, Binance believes digital assets can help people build that same kind of financial record from the ground up.

Across Africa millions of people already do the hard part. They save every month, pay what they owe on time and plan carefully for what comes next. But when it comes to borrowing none of that discipline leaves a trace a bank can see. Without a formal credit history, a bank account or a fixed salary, that same responsible saver can still be turned away because the system has no way to prove it. For a trader trying to grow a small business or a family facing an unexpected cost, that single gap can decide whether they move forward or stay stuck.

“For many years, access to credit in Africa has depended on paperwork that most people simply don’t have,” said Larry Cooke, Binance Africa. “Digital assets are starting to change that. Every transaction on the blockchain is visible and verifiable, and over time, that record can become a credit profile of its own, one that lenders could recognise even without a traditional banking relationship.”

The premise is straightforward: a user’s blockchain activity, including savings through Binance Earn, payments through Binance Pay and spending via the Binance Card, is aggregated into behavioural categories that mirror what a traditional credit bureau assesses. Regular savings indicate financial discipline, consistent payments demonstrate cash-flow reliability and transaction regularity signals income stability. Each factor is weighted within a scoring model benchmarked against accepted credit-scoring methodology, producing a profile that lenders can query as an alternative credit assessment.

This mirrors how mobile money histories already power lending through platforms like Tala and Branch in East Africa. The key difference is the data itself which is more granular, more verifiable and not tied to a single provider.

That growing profile is already visible in daily life across the continent. Savings held through Binance Earn grow over time instead of sitting idle. Money sent through Binance Pay crosses borders in seconds rather than days without the fees that usually draw from family remittances. Spending through the Binance Card turns digital assets into groceries, transport and everyday uses.

On their own these are small conveniences but together they point to something bigger: a future where saving, earning, sending and spending live in one place to build the kind of credit profile that could one day support access to credit and other financial products. That is the financial super app Binance is building. It is not simply a trading platform, it is a daily financial home for how people across Africa save, spend and grow their money.

But a financial home is only useful if people know how to live in it, starting with education. “Adoption only means something if people know what they are adopting,” Cooke said. “That is why education must come first.”

Binance backs this with free resources through Binance Academy, offering courses from beginner to advanced level, some of which reward learners directly through a Learn and Earn feature. As more first-time users enter the market that education is what separates confident, informed adoption from the vulnerability scammers look to exploit.

Cooke is clear that building this kind of credit profile cannot happen in isolation. “Partnerships with regulators, central banks and financial institutions make that possible, focused on real education from the start,” he added. “Get that right and the credit profiles people build on digital assets can start to count within the wider financial system. Not as a replacement for it but as a bridge into it for people the system has struggled to reach.”
