Damang Gold Mine airport project to cost $80m – Company

The proposed airport project at Damang Gold Mine is expected to cost at least US$80 million for its two phases, according to the company’s Community Relations Manager, Rammy Oboro.
He said the project would involve the preparation of the land for the runway in the first phase, followed by the construction of supporting infrastructure and other essential facilities in the second phase.
Speaking on a special edition of Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen in Tarkwa-Damang, Mr Oboro said the runway alone would stretch approximately two kilometres.
“The airport construction is anticipated to cost us not less than US$80 million for both Phase One and Phase Two,” he said.
He explained that the first phase would focus on levelling the land, while the second phase would cover additional structures and infrastructure, including signal systems and electrical wiring.
Mr Oboro said the project was part of plans to improve accessibility to Damang and support economic activities in the area.
The airport proposal was announced by Engineers and Planners (E&P) Chief Executive Officer, Ibrahim Mahama, during the handover ceremony following the company’s takeover of Damang Gold Mine.
Mr Mahama pledged that the company would work to establish an airport in Damang within six months of taking over the mine, which he said would make air travel between the area and Accra easier.
“We’ve applied for Damang to have an airport, and within six months, Damang will have an airport, such that we can fly to Accra easily,” he said at the ceremony.
