Gov Sani Donates New Buses To NUJ, NBA, NMA, KASU, NCoS

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Tuesday donated brand new luxurious buses to five key institutions in the state in a bid to ease mobility and transportation challenges and strengthen service delivery.

The beneficiaries include the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna Branch, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna State University (KASU) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

Presenting the vehicles in Kaduna, Governor Sani said the gesture was in recognition of the critical roles the institutions play in democracy, justice, healthcare, education, security and public service delivery.

The Governor described the five organisations as essential to the development of the state, noting that government would continue to support them where necessary.

He said the bus donated to the Nigerian Correctional Service would help address transportation challenges, particularly the movement of inmates to courts, hospitals and other official engagements.

Sani disclosed that he had visited the Kaduna Correctional Centre twice this year and observed infrastructure decay and other challenges.

He added that government had commenced interventions to address some of the problems, “with the vehicle donation part of efforts to improve the Service’s operational capacity”.

For the health sector, the Governor commended NMA for collaborating with his administration to improve healthcare delivery.

He said healthcare is a fundamental right and that the bus given to the association would enhance the mobility of doctors and other professionals across the state.

On the NBA, Sani described the Kaduna Branch as “one of the most vibrant branches in the whole of Nigeria,” praising its contributions to justice, rule of law and protection of the rights of underserved citizens.

At KASU, he said the donation aligned with his administration’s commitment to strengthening university education.

He recalled the government’s work with the school management and NUC to resolve accreditation issues, and noted that the 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees had led to increased enrolment.

Describing the NUJ as critical to the sustenance of democracy, the Governor recalled the sacrifices of journalists in the struggle for civil rule, with some losing their lives during military dictatorship.

Receiving the bus on behalf of NUJ, State Council Chairman, Comrade AbdulGafar Alabelewe, said journalists had requested the vehicle about six months ago during a Ramadan Iftar with the Governor.

He noted that it was the first such donation to the union by the state government in about two decades.

Alabelewe assured that the bus would be used to facilitate journalists’ movement to assignments across the state, while the media would continue to hold government accountable and set the development agenda.

He also conveyed the appreciation of NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, and announced that the union would confer on Governor Sani the title of Grand Patron of NUJ in Kaduna State at a convenient date.

NMA Chairman, Dr Hassan Bala Salihu, thanked the Governor for supporting healthcare delivery in the state.

NBA Kaduna Branch Chairman, Barrister Baba Lawal, said the vehicle would strengthen the branch’s capacity to serve members and the public.

KASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Musa, described the donation as historic and commended the Governor’s commitment to the university.

Representing the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, also appreciated the donation, saying it would address a major operational challenge for the Kaduna Command.

He assured that the vehicle would be properly maintained and deployed strictly for its intended purpose.
