Government has revealed that it offered to accord late former Cabinet Minister, Mutotwe Kafwaya, funeral and burial honours befitting a former Cabinet Minister, but the family declined the offer in favour of a private funeral.
Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said the need was applicable in recognition of the late Mr Kafwaya having served as Minister of Works and Supply from 2018 to 2019, before serving as Minister of Transport and Communications from 2019 to 2021.
Kangwa says the decision to hold a private funeral was made by the family, who respectfully declined the government’s offer.
He appealed to members of the public to respect the family’s wishes as preparations for the burial continue.
Mr Kangwa says the government has since conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and called on the nation to keep them in prayer during the period of mourning.
The late Mr Kafwaya previously served in Cabinet under the administration of late former President Edgar Lungu.
