The first cohort of Borno State Forest Guards have successfully completed a six-week intensive Nigerian Army training programme at the Miangu Range, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Plateau State, in a major boost to the state’s efforts to strengthen its community-based security architecture.
The passing-out ceremony, held on Saturday 5th September, 2026 marked the completion of the rigorous training programme which commenced in July 2026 and was aimed at equipping the Forest Guards with the discipline, physical preparedness and operational skills required for effective service.
The trainees were taken through various aspects of security and field operations, including discipline, physical fitness and hygiene, arms handling and management, among other exercises.
The programme was structured to instill a strong sense of discipline and responsibility while enhancing the operational readiness of the Forest Guards to effectively perform their assigned duties.
The graduation ceremony attracted the presence of top military officers, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Internal Security, Alhaji Aminu Chamalwa and officials and staff of the Borno State Security Trust Fund, among other dignitaries.
The participation of senior military personnel and key representatives of the Borno State Government underscored the strategic importance of the training and the role expected of the Forest Guards in supporting efforts to safeguard communities and protect the state’s forest resources.
The newly-trained Forest Guards were urged to translate the knowledge and skills acquired during the exercise into effective service, while maintaining discipline, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
They were also encouraged to work closely with conventional security agencies and other relevant authorities in carrying out their responsibilities.
The successful graduation of the 924 Forest Guards represents a significant milestone in Borno State’s efforts to build a disciplined and better-prepared force capable of complementing existing security structures in protecting communities and supporting the restoration of peace and security across the state.
