Two murder cases send shockwaves through Pretoria West

Pretoria West is reeling from two horrific murders that have sent shockwaves through the community. Police are currently investigating separate incidents that occurred on 14 and 15 September 2026, both of which have left residents in fear and seeking answers.

The first gruesome discovery took place on 14 September at approximately 6:45am in Christoffel Street. Emergency responders arrived at a flat to find the lifeless body of a 25-year-old woman.

She was found naked on the floor, exhibiting visible bruises, raising suspicions that she was strangled and sexually assaulted.

Provincial Crime Scene Management teams were promptly engaged, confirming the scene of the crime as a priority for investigation.

Just a day later, another murder shook Pretoria West. On 15 September, at around 6:15am, police received a call regarding a murder on WF Nkomo Street. Upon their arrival, they found the body of a 40-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.

Paramedics were called to the scene but pronounced him dead shortly after. Investigators continued to gather evidence and meticulously examine the circumstances surrounding both incidents.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with pertinent information to reach out to their local police station or contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.

Tip-offs can also be submitted confidentially via the MySAPSApp. Both victims have been identified, although further details about the suspects remain undisclosed.

This disturbing news comes amid a broader investigation involving the tragic deaths of eight women in the Ekurhuleni area, culminating in the discovery of yet another body.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia confirmed the eighth case on Tuesday night; however, vital details surrounding this latest victim are still pending.

Authorities have not disclosed her identity, location, or the circumstances of her death, but the situation has been deemed intensely concerning for community safety.

In light of these incidents, authorities have cautioned against jumping to conclusions regarding potential links between the murders. Forensic evidence is being meticulously reviewed, while detectives assess each case for patterns or connections.

This alarming trend began with the discovery of multiple murdered women in the Kempton Park area between July and September, with reports expanding to include cases from Olifantsfontein and KwaThema, Springs.

The latest revelation adds to an already grim narrative prevalent in Ekurhuleni, where police have painstakingly connected five cases of young women whose bodies were previously found.

The establishment of a high-level multidisciplinary team under the guidance of the deputy provincial commissioner aims to fast-track investigations into these harrowing incidents. Cachalia assured the community that police would leave no stone unturned in pursuit of justice for the victims.

Additionally, the rising number of violent crimes has sparked conversations surrounding safety, particularly for women.

One of the previously identified victims, 38-year-old Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo, went missing after leaving her Rhodesfield residence for a jog—her later identification by family evoking intense emotion and inspiring calls from Athletics South Africa for safer environments for women to engage in sports.
