A 28-year-old man who robbed the same house in Dzivaresekwa Extension, Harare, twice and stole a Honda Fit vehicle has been jailed for 12 years.
Bright Chiteshe, of Nyakudya Village, Chief Rwizi, Mhondoro, was convicted of two counts of robbery at the Harare Magistrates Court on 15 September 2026.
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri confirmed the conviction.
The court heard that Chiteshe and his accomplice, Brian Chiteshe, 28, of Nehanda, Dzivaresekwa Extension, first raided the complainant’s home on 15 February at around 1.20 am.
They threatened the complainant and her son, ransacked the house and stole cellphones, a laptop and a tablet. They demanded the keys to her Honda Fit but failed to drive it and fled.
The pair returned to the same house on 1 March and entered through a window. They stole two cellphones, cash and the car keys before driving away in the Honda Fit.
The stolen car led to their arrest. On 16 April, detectives from CID Homicide received information that the Honda Fit was being advertised for sale on social media.
Follow-ups led police to recover the vehicle in Highfield, Harare, and arrest the two suspects.
The pair appeared before Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, with Tariro Janhi prosecuting.
Bright Chiteshe was found guilty on both counts and sentenced to 12 years in prison. His co-accused, Brian Chiteshe, was found not guilty and acquitted.
Inspector Muteweri urged the public to strengthen security at their homes and avoid keeping large amounts of cash at residential premises.
