NSFAS is hiring with the CEO and CFO seats open
The scheme is looking for C-suite positions on five-year contracts.
AI summary
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has recently been on the lips of South Africans due to the recent closure of the 2027 application window on 31st October. Today, however, the fund is worth talking about again, as it has posted a new slew of open jobs, with some notable positions that need to be filled.
The landing page for the positions can be found here, with 14 open slots. We’ve looked through all 14 and they are all permanent employment contracts with no Rand value attached to the remuneration section, and a closing date for applications on 13th November 2026.
All of the positions – save for three – are also permanent. These three are the big, C-suite job openings including the chief executive officer, Core Business executive and chief financial officer, all of which are for five-year contracts instead.
You can click or tap on the names of the jobs below to be taken to a standalone PDF with all the details about the job opening. We will add, however, that the job of “Brands & Events Senior Manager” is currently leading to a dead link. We will leave it as is for now hoping that NSFAS updates it in the future.

At the moment, the acting CEO of NSFAS is Waseem Carrim who was appointed, with congratulations, in September 2026. Because an acting CEO is only meant to be temporary, we are not too surprised by the fact that NSFAS is looking for a replacement, but we are surprised to see such an important role advertised alongside other, more mundane jobs.
So what is NSFAS looking for in its CEO?
“Reporting to the NSFAS Board, the Chief Executive Officer provides ethical, strategic and operational
leadership to ensure effective delivery of the NSFAS mandate. The CEO is accountable for institutional
performance, sound governance, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, organisational
transformation and reliable, student-centred services,” reads part of the seven-page job listing PDF.
“Preferred: NQF Level 9 qualification Business Management, Finance, Public Administration or a related
field. Professional registration in their respective SAQA accredited body. 10 years at Executive level in a large, complex or regulated organisation.”
An NQF Level 9, by the way, is a Master’s Degree.
The incoming CEO, as well as CFO, Core Business Executive and all the other new blood will be coming into a difficult situation at NSFAS. Back in May the fund went under administration so the government could try and sort out the many problems plaguing the institution. With 2026 set to end soon, and the 2027 school year just around the corner, we have to wonder if NSFAS will have new, stable leadership by the time higher education institutions start their next semesters.
