I’ve Tried Several Tools as a Journalist. These 3 Have Been the Most Useful
From sourcing for story ideas to structuring drafts and improving my writing, these are the three tools I keep coming back to.
AI summary
Writing can be thrilling, but it can also be cumbersome and downright exhausting, especially when you don’t know what to write about or, even when you do, how to communicate the idea.
As a journalist myself, these were some of the challenges I faced when starting. Thankfully, I had colleagues and friends who recommended tools that helped make the process more fun and less tasking.
Over time, I’ve tried several tools, from Grammarly and QuillBot to more sophisticated, all-in-one tools like Claude and ChatGPT, among others. But not all of them have had the same impact on how I work.
Some are useful for specific tasks, while others have become my go-to platforms for sourcing stories and getting a sense of what people are looking for. Of all the tools I’ve tried, these three have been the most useful to me.
The Top 4 AI Tools I Pay for as a Content CreatorAfter spending hundreds of dollars testing AI tools over the past year, only four still earn my money. Here's what I pay for, what I cancelled, and why.
/1. Twitter (Now X)
As the first on my list, X ( previously Twitter) has earned its spot because it offers the most value of any tool I’ve used so far. Basically, it’s where I source trending news and find stories around the topics I want to cover without having to switch between platforms.
Unlike Google Trends, where I sometimes have to tweak a few settings to get the information I need, Twitter makes it easier to find conversations, follow developing stories, and see what people are talking about without wasting too much time. I also use it to unwind whenever I need a break from work.
Then there’s the added benefit of having a platform to share my thoughts and connect with people. If anything, I think Twitter will remain my number one for years to come, unless something changes.
