Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday received Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at his residence in Port Harcourt, in their first reported meeting since the governor announced his decision not to seek a second term in the 2027 governorship election.
The meeting is coming amid renewed efforts to consolidate the reconciliation between the two politicians following the prolonged political crisis that erupted shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023.
Wike was joined at the meeting by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, and the Chairman of the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee, Magnus Abe.
Fubara was accompanied to Wike’s residence by former APC Deputy National Chairman, Sam Jaja.

The meeting follows Wike’s recent declaration that Fubara had agreed to return to the political family that supported his emergence as governor of Rivers State.
The political relationship between Wike and Fubara deteriorated after the latter became governor in 2023, triggering a crisis that polarised the state and led to a series of political confrontations.
The dispute resulted in lawmakers loyal to Wike initiating impeachment proceedings against Fubara and eventually contributed to the political crisis that preceded President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
The two camps later reached a truce as efforts were made to resolve the political differences between Wike and Fubara.
Fubara subsequently joined the APC and aligned with the Rainbow Coalition backed by Wike.
Following Wike’s declaration that the political feud had ended, a reconciliation committee led by Abe was constituted to engage Fubara and his supporters as part of efforts to consolidate the peace arrangement.
Fubara has since declared support for the Rainbow Coalition and endorsed Chinda as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 Rivers governorship election.
The governor also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election and urged his supporters to back the President and other candidates of the coalition.
Fubara had earlier been screened alongside Chinda as an aspirant for the APC governorship primary but later withdrew from the race.
The governor said his decision was taken in the interest of peace and unity in Rivers State.
Following Fubara’s withdrawal, Chinda became the sole aspirant and subsequently emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
