Tension Brews as Kenyans From This Region Who Do Not Support Ruto Are Told to Leave Immediately

A political statement reportedly made by Kimbikimbi has triggered debate among Kenyans after he allegedly urged members of the Kalenjin community who do not support President William Ruto to leave the community. The remarks have attracted attention amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kimbikimbi was quoted as saying, “Sisi ndio TUTAM original, kama wewe ni Mkalenjin na hausupport Ruto, HAMA KWETU.” The statement has raised questions about political loyalty, freedom of expression and whether support for a particular leader should determine an individual’s acceptance within their ethnic community.

The controversy comes as political leaders and supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election, in which Ruto is expected to seek another term in office. Political discussions have increasingly focused on the President’s performance, his administration’s policies and the direction Kenya should take in the coming years.

The remarks have also brought renewed attention to the political slogans “Tutam” and “Wantam,” which have become prominent in discussions about Ruto’s political future. Tutam is associated with supporters who want the President to secure a second term, while Wantam represents those advocating for him to serve only one term.

A September 2026 analysis by the Institute for Security Studies reportedly highlighted how the two slogans have become part of the wider political contest surrounding Ruto’s possible re-election.

As the political atmosphere intensifies, Kenyans continue to express differing opinions about leadership, economic conditions, development and government accountability. While some citizens remain committed to supporting the President, others believe a change in leadership would better serve the country’s interests.

However, political preferences vary within every ethnic community. The Kalenjin community, like other communities across Kenya, consists of individuals with different political beliefs and loyalties. Citizens have the constitutional right to support any political party or candidate without being forced to conform to the preferences of their ethnic group.

Consequently, the reported statement has sparked concerns about the growing pressure on individuals to demonstrate political allegiance based on their community identity.

As the 2027 elections approach, political leaders and their supporters are expected to intensify campaigns and use slogans to mobilise voters. Maintaining peaceful political engagement will be essential to preventing disagreements from creating unnecessary divisions among citizens.

Ultimately, the election will provide eligible Kenyans with an opportunity to choose their preferred leaders through the ballot.
