Nkoranza South MP commissions modern six-unit classroom block to end decades of Congestion

For years, the pupils of Asunkwaa M/A Primary School in the Nkoranza South Constituency of the Bono East Region studied under conditions that tested both their patience and their potential. With some classrooms bursting at the seams, accommodating as many as 90 pupils at a time, teachers struggled to cope, and learning suffered.

But that narrative has now changed.

A Community’s Long Wait Ends

The school, which has long grappled with severe overcrowding due to rising enrollment, has finally received a brand-new six-unit classroom block funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). The facility was officially commissioned in a brief but colorful ceremony attended by dignitaries, traditional leaders, and jubilant community members.

Headmaster Atta Augustine described the years of struggle with candid honesty.

“The situation was very challenging for us. Imagine having ninety pupils in one classroom. It was difficult for teachers to give individual attention to students. Marking exercises alone was a herculean task. We needed help, and we needed it urgently.”

The new block, he noted, will not only ease congestion but also create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning—one where pupils can breathe, focus, and thrive.

Government’s Commitment to Rural Education

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South and Minister for Labour, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, underscored the government’s dedication to bridging the educational gap between rural and urban communities.

“This project is not just about bricks and mortar. It is about investing in our future. We want the children of Asunkwaa to have the same opportunities as those in the cities,” he said.

The MP expressed optimism that the new facility would serve as a launchpad for future leaders, professionals, and change-makers.

“My hope is that one day, from this very community, we will raise professors, lawyers, doctors, and many more professionals who will contribute to national development.”

A Call for Maintenance

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, who joined the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive for the ceremony, commended the government’s efforts while urging the community to take ownership of the facility.

“This facility belongs to you. Take care of it. Let us work together to maintain it so that it can serve generations to come. The results we all desire will only come if we protect what has been given to us,” he advised.

Traditional Authorities Express Gratitude

For the chiefs and elders of Asunkwaa, the new classroom block is a dream fulfilled. The Dikro of Asunkwaa, Nana Osei Kofi, who spoke on behalf of the traditional council, expressed deep appreciation to the government and the MP.

“We are grateful to the MP and the government for listening to our cry. Our children have suffered for too long. Today, we can smile. We say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

A Brighter Future Ahead

As the sun sets over Asunkwaa, the new classroom block stands as more than just a building—it is a symbol of hope, progress, and the power of collective effort. For the pupils of Asunkwaa M/A Primary School, the future looks brighter than ever before. The days of overcrowded classrooms and unbearable heat are gradually becoming a thing of the past, replaced by an environment where learning can truly flourish.

The commissioning of this facility is a reminder that when government and community work hand in hand, meaningful change is not only possible—it is inevitable.
