Defending Ghana Premier League title will not be easy for Medeama – Ibrahim Tanko

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko says retaining the Ghana Premier League title will be a difficult task as the club faces increased competition in the 2026/27 season.Medeama won their second league title at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with Tanko guiding the side through an impressive season. This season, the Tarkwa-based club have made a positive start to their title defence, amassing eight points from their opening four matches to sit at the top of the league table.Despite Medeama's strong start, Ibrahim Tanko believes the challenge will become tougher as rival teams look to prevent the champions from retaining their crown. He said every team has prepared for the new campaign and acknowledged the added pressure that comes with being the defending champions."It's not going to be easy this season because all the teams are prepared; we are the defending champions, so definitely we are trying to maintain it," Ibrahim Tanko told journalists after Medeama defeated Port City 1-0 on Tuesday.Medeama will now look to build on their early-season form as they attempt to retain the Ghana Premier League title.
