Three persons have been injured while another was rescued unhurt after suspected bandits attacked Garun Mallam town in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Saturday when the hoodlums stormed the town and began shooting sporadically into the air before abducting the Sarkin Noman(farmer’s leader), Alhaji Yusif Nadabo.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Sunday, three residents, identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, were shot and injured during the attack.
He said the police, upon receiving the distress call, immediately mobilised tactical and patrol teams, with reinforcements from neighbouring divisions, to the area.
He explained that operatives, working with members of the community, pursued the fleeing assailants, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victim.
He stated, “Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt.”
Kiyawa added that the three injured victims and the rescued victim were taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The police spokesman said the command had deployed confidence-building patrols in and around the town of Garun Mallam to prevent further attacks, while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.
He said the investigation into the incident was ongoing, adding that further developments would be communicated to the public.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and expressed appreciation to residents, vigilantes, and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their cooperation during the rescue operation.
Bakori urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the police in arresting the perpetrators.
