Herman Manyora Dismissed Junet Mohamed’s Defense for Skipping Raila’s Memorial
Political analyst Herman Manyora has sharply dismissed Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed’s explanation for skipping the one-year memorial service of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, labeling the reason unconvincing.
Junet had publicly stated that he deliberately avoided the commemoration held at Migwena Grounds in Bondo because former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was included on the official guest list.
Manyora questioned the authenticity of Junet’s justification, arguing that a dedicated party leader and key lieutenant to the late opposition icon should not allow the presence of political rivals to deter them from honoring their party leader’s memory.
The analyst suggested that using Gachagua’s invitation as a pretext highlights deeper internal contradictions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as various factions navigate their ties with President William Ruto’s broad-based administration.
The public fallout over attendance at the Bondo memorial highlights expanding fault lines inside ODM following Raila Odinga’s passing.
While Ruto-allied ODM figures and key lawmakers stayed away, reform-minded opposition figures alongside United Opposition leaders utilized the platform to champion party legacy and demand structural accountability from the current government.
Manyora’s critique underscores the heightened scrutiny surrounding party loyalty and individual political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
As political commentators audit internal party dynamics and shifting coalition alignments, the debate surrounding Junet’s absence establishes a crucial benchmark for party discipline, institutional memory, and political consistency in Nyanza and beyond.
