Police and regulators seized goods valued at about R6.64 million during operations in Boksburg, Brixton, Alrode and Randfontein.
Gauteng police and partner agencies seized counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods valued at about R6.64 million during four operations conducted across the province last week.
The South African Police Service said the operations took place in Boksburg, Brixton, Alrode and Randfontein between 25 and 28 August.
In Boksburg, officers seized 10,205 items valued at R129,450, including counterfeit consumable products, toys and illicit pharmaceutical products.
A search-and-seizure operation at a house in Brixton recovered 16,540 counterfeit sanitary products with an estimated value of R590,000, police said.
The largest intervention took place at premises in Alrode, Alberton. The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications detained pre-packed noodles and packaging rolls valued at about R5.83 million. The Department of Health took noodle products for testing, while labour officials issued compliance notices.
Home Affairs also issued an infringement notice over the employment of foreign nationals without valid work permits, according to SAPS.
A further operation at four shops in Randfontein resulted in the seizure of 1,605 items valued at R93,920. These included counterfeit consumables and toys, as well as products described by police as illicit honey.
SAPS said the operations were carried out by the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit with commercial-crime investigators, border police, regulators and other government departments.
The values released by police are estimates. No criminal convictions were announced in the statement.
