Matric 2026: Where to find free past papers online

One of the most common ways to prepare for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, is working through past papers from previous years. This allows you to see the question style, mark allocation and more. So, where can you find past papers for free?

DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION WEBSITE

The first place to look is the Department of Basic Education website, which has a dedicated section for the NSC past exam papers. You can find the website link here. You can download the question papers and memoranda which covers November, May/June and supplementary exams.

This is the most trustworthy source.

PROVINCIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENTS

The Western Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape have past papers and study guides on their websites. This often includes the provincial prepatory exams.

OTHER SITES TO LOOK OUT FOR:

**MINDSET LEARN **

Mindset Learn offers free video lessons alongside past papers and revision resources. If a memo leaves you stuck on a concept, you can watch a lesson on the same topic without leaving the site.

SIYAVULA

Siyavula is known for its free Maths and Physical Sciences textbooks and practice questions. It’s useful for strengthening your understanding after working through a past paper and spotting your weak areas.

COMMUNITY AND REVISION SITES

Several independent sites collect papers by subject and year, such as SA Exam Papers and Stanmore Secondary’s resource pages. This covers subjects like Physical Sciences and Maths. They are convenient because everything sits in one place, but check that you are downloading the correct year, subject and language version.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Many teachers and student communities share papers on WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook groups. These may be handy, but you need to verify what you download against the official DBE versions.

TIPS FOR USING PAST PAPERS

• Start early. Begin with topic-by-topic questions, then move to full papers.
• Be cautious of time while you work through each paper.
• Mark with the memo. Study how marks are awarded, not just the final answers.
• Track your mistakes. Keep a list of recurring errors to revise.
