The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Zakari Mumuni, has called for stronger institutional partnerships, effective risk-sharing arrangements and well-prepared investment projects to attract more Asian investment into West Africa.
He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the High-Level West Africa–Asia Capital Dialogue in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The event was held on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings.
Dr Mumuni highlighted Ghana’s ongoing macroeconomic stabilisation efforts, stressing that policy predictability, credible institutions and appropriate financing structures were essential to attracting long-term investment.
He identified agro-processing, manufacturing, energy, transport and logistics, digital services, and financial technology as key sectors offering significant investment opportunities in the region.
He also pointed to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as an important platform for expanding regional trade, attracting investment and driving economic transformation across the continent.
“Our responsibility in Africa is to make opportunities more investable. Our partners’ responsibility is to assess those opportunities objectively and work with us to develop commercially viable solutions,” he said.
Dr Mumuni urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and translate their commitments into actual investments, sustainable business growth and long-term partnerships that deliver shared benefits for Africa and Asia.
He said stronger collaboration between the two regions could help unlock investment opportunities and support economic development across West Africa.
