Barely one day after authority of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced the shutdown of further activities at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State over dilapidated infrastructure, the state government has announced the relocation of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp from Obubra to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa.
Secretary to State Government SSG Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, confirmed this development during a telephone conversation with LEADERSHIP on Thursday.
Enoh however in a statement dated October 15, 2026, titled temporary relocation of NYSC permanent orientation camp from Obubra to University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa local government area of Cross River State.
The statement signed by Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh sighted by LEADERSHIP stated that the relocation, approved by Governor Bassey Otu, is temporary and is to pave the way for the comprehensive renovation, remodeling and upgrading of the existing camp facilities at Obubra.
“The Obubra camp, which has served the NYSC Scheme over the years, has become overstretched and requires urgent intervention to meet modern standards and to provide a more conducive, safe and befitting environment for Corps Members,” the government stated.
The statement emphasised that the camp will return to Obubra upon completion of the renovation works, stressing that the move is strictly temporary.
“The University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, has been assessed and found to have adequate facilities, including hostels, water, electricity, parade ground and security architecture, to host a hitch-free orientation exercise,” it added.
“We appeal to all stakeholders to give this initiative the understanding and support it deserves, as Government continues to invest in infrastructure that enhances youth development and national service,” SSG’s statement maintained.
