President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the rescue of 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six other Nigerians who were abducted last week by criminal elements in Kogi State.
The 21 abductees were rescued on Monday during a coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation involving personnel of the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.
According to the President, the combined security team safely rescued all the victims from the kidnappers’ den in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rescued persons comprise eight males and 13 females and are currently receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.
President Tinubu, who expressed delight over their freedom, commended the courage of the security personnel involved in the operation.
“I am delighted to receive the news that the fifteen members of the National Youth Service Corps and six other innocent and law-abiding Nigerians abducted last week in Kogi State by some criminal elements have regained their freedom,” the President said.
He said security forces were still pursuing the kidnappers, who had been routed during the rescue operation, in line with his directive to sustain pressure on criminal elements across the country.
“Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime,” Tinubu vowed.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians can travel across the country without fear.
He also assured parents and loved ones of corps members that his administration remained committed to protecting their lives and property, as well as those of other Nigerians.
Tinubu thanked the families and loved ones of the abductees for their understanding during the ordeal and said he shared in the relief and joy of the parents and families of the rescued individuals.
The President commended the men and women of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies for their service and courage.
