HARARE, (NewsDay Live) -Mining and manufacturing continued to attract the bulk of new investment in Zimbabwe during the second quarter, accounting for almost 80% of projected investment from newly licensed projects.
Latest figures from the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) show that 184 new investment licences were issued across various sectors during the quarter, with nearly half of the projects concentrated in mining.
“Mining projects accounted for US$768.52 million in projected investment, making the sector the largest contributor to the quarter’s investment pipeline. Manufacturing followed with US$496.72 million in projected investment,” said ZIDA.
Combined, the two sectors accounted for about US$1.27 billion, or nearly 80% of the total projected investment from the new licences issued during the quarter.
The figures highlight continued investor interest in Zimbabwe’s mining and manufacturing sectors, with the two industries emerging as key destinations for new capital and potential industrial activity.
The strong showing by manufacturing also points to growing opportunities for value addition and beneficiation, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen domestic production and reduce reliance on imports.
