Moroccan boxers won two gold medals and one silver medal on Thursday in Taranto as part of the Mediterranean Games currently taking place in the Italian city.
Saïda Lahmidi clinched the gold medal in the under 70 kg category following the withdrawal of French boxer Maïlys Richaud before the final.
In the men’s division, Slimane Samghouli claimed gold in the under 65 kg category after a 3-2 victory over Algeria’s Ismaïl Bakhchiss.
Meanwhile, Widad Bertal took home the silver medal in the under 54 kg category after a 4-1 defeat in the final against Italy’s Sirine Chaarabi.
Bertal had secured her spot in the final at the expense of France’s Wassila Lkhadiri, who she defeated 5-0.
Lahmidi, for her part, earned her ticket to the final after overpowering Turkey’s Dilara Sak in the semi-final, with the referee stopping the fight due to a clear mismatch.
Samghouli had also reached the final after dominating Serbia’s Dmitry Artemovich Gorbenko with a decisive 5-0 score.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, Moroccan boxers won three bronze medals thanks to Abdelhak Nadir (-70 kg), Mounia Toutir (-65 kg), and Yasmine Mouttaki (-51 kg).
