Check out the 7-month-old EOCO letter behind attempt to arrest Manhyia South MP

Hours after the failed attempt to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah outside the Accra High Court, a letter from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) dated February 27, 2026 has surfaced online.

Signed by the Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the letter was addressed to Baffour Awuah as Senior Partner of his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, inviting him to appear before the Office under Section 19 of Act 804.

It followed an earlier invitation dated February 10, asking him to assist with an investigation. Mr Baffour Awuah replied on February 18, saying he had passed EOCO’s confidential invitation to the Clerk of Parliament for advice.

EOCO did not accept that, insisting that the February 10 letter was addressed to him as an officer of a law firm, and not a member of parliament.

“Therefore, the Office disagrees with forwarding an official letter specifically addressed to a designated officer of a law firm to Parliament,” the letter stated.

It added that it would not recognise any correspondence from the Clerk on the matter.

“Please take note that any correspondence from the Clerk of Parliament on this matter will not be recognized since the Office is not aware of any established protocol or law which prevents the said person from honouring a lawful invitation,” the letter said.

The letter closed with a warning “that failure to honour this invitation may leave us with no choice than to compel him to appear before the Office.”

EOCO has since said its officers tried to arrest the MP on Wednesday, September 23, but stopped after the situation escalated and they judged that going further could endanger the public.

It said he then went to Parliament to seek sanctuary, although the House is on recess.

Mr Baffour Awuah has said the woman who approached him at the court did not provide an identification or arrest warrant, and that he drove away because he feared for his safety.
