Uganda finish eighth at 2026 All Africa Team Championship as South Africa take gold

Team Uganda finished eighth at the 2026 All Africa Team Championship in Tunisia, completing a challenging three-round campaign against 16 nations at the Citrus Golf Course.

Uganda accumulated 671 strokes across the three rounds to secure eighth place in the men’s team competition, finishing ahead of Egypt, Seychelles, Mauritius, Ghana, Libya, Gabon, Botswana, Algeria and Cameroon.

The result placed Uganda in the top half of the 17-team standings, in a championship won by South Africa with a total of 624 strokes.

Morocco finished second on 628, while Zambia claimed third place on 646. Réunion Island and hosts Tunisia tied on 650 to complete the top five.

For Uganda, the championship offered an opportunity to test its golfers against some of the continent’s strongest teams, with their results showing both the challenge of maintaining consistency over three rounds and the depth of competition across African golf.

Uganda opened with a team total of 228 in the first round, placing eighth. The team improved to 223 in the second round before posting 220 in the third, its best collective score of the championship.

Uganda’s final-round performance was particularly encouraging, as the team produced its lowest aggregate of the three days, although the overall total left it nine strokes behind seventh-placed Zimbabwe, who finished on 669.

Kenya, Uganda’s East African neighbours, finished sixth with 667, six strokes ahead of Uganda.

The Ugandan team had players Godfrey Kambale, Amon Bwambale, Shaka Kariisa and Anthony Otukei under the guidance of coach Flavia Namakula.

Anthony Otukei was Uganda’s leading individual performer, finishing 19th with 221 strokes. He opened with 72, added 76 in the second round and closed with 73. His opening round was his best, and his overall finish placed him among the championship’s top 20 golfers.

Shaka Kariisa finished 30th with 226 strokes. After opening with 75, he returned 74 in the second round and 77 in the third. His consistent opening two rounds helped him remain competitive in the individual standings.

Amon Bwambale finished just one place behind Kariisa, also demonstrating Uganda’s depth in the individual competition. He accumulated 227 strokes, with rounds of 83, 73 and 71. His final-round 71 was his best score, capping a campaign in which he improved considerably after his opening round.

Godfrey Kambale completed the championship with 239 strokes, recording rounds of 81, 82 and 76. His final-round 76 was a six-stroke improvement on his second-round score, providing a positive finish to his individual campaign.

For the Ugandan team, the next step will be translating that late improvement into stronger opening rounds and greater consistency across all four golfers. Uganda leaves Tunisia with individual performances to build on and a clear target of moving closer to the continent’s leading golf nations.
