President Mnangagwa and his Mozambican counterpart, President Chapo, are now in Nhamatanda, Sofala Province, for the official laying of the first stone marking the commencement of Phase II of the Pipeline Expansion at Nhamatanda.
Upon arrival at Nhamatanda, the two leaders were welcomed with wild applause from thousands of Frelimo supporters and local residents.
President Mnangagwa and President Chapo were then given a brief overview of the project adjacent to a plaque that they eventually unveiled.
They are expected to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony, where they will deliver speeches focusing on the significance of the project and how it will provide energy security to the two neighbouring countries.
The Mozambique-Zimbabwe Pipeline Company (CPMZ) capacity expansion project will see the construction of two new pumping stations at Nhamatanda and Messica in Manica Province, raising the Beira-Feruka pipeline’s annual transportation capacity from 3 million to 5 million cubic metres by the end of 2027.
