Ruto Mocks Kalonzo’s Wamunyoro Visit: “He Has Gone for Another Interview”

President William Ruto roasted Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday, October 26, over his visit to Rigathi Gachagua’s home in Wamunyoro, saying Gachagua would “interview” him.

Speaking in Makueni County, Ruto mocked Kalonzo, suggesting he would face humiliating questions similar to those asked in 2022, when opposition leaders sought a running mate for the late Raila Odinga.

“I have heard that today, he has gone for another interview where he will be asked his name, ID number, and academic certificates. In fact, he is going to be asked why he said that I have been sent by God to build roads,” Ruto joked.

Ruto urged Kalonzo to join the government instead of attending what he called degrading interviews. He claimed the United Opposition would subject Kalonzo to the same humiliation he faced in 2022.

The President also said Kalonzo owed him a favor because he had campaigned for him during his first bid for Parliament in 1992, when Kalonzo won the Mwingi North seat.

“When I was still in university and a member of the Youth for Kanu, I campaigned for him, and he was elected MP. I had gone to Tseikuru to collect on the favor and tell him that since I campaigned for him, he should return the helping hand,” Ruto said.

Kalonzo said his meeting with Gachagua formed part of the opposition’s efforts to build unity.

Gachagua, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, said the two had held extensive discussions about the country’s liberation and the formation of a sixth administration. He described his Wamunyoro residence as an important center for efforts to restore the nation.

“We are all in agreement that we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on one presidential candidate to be the captain of our struggle. Consultations continue,” Gachagua wrote.
