Magnum Predators reign supreme! The Chatsworth outfit went undefeated to lift the Aqua Darshan Port Shepstone Volleyball Association title.
Chatsworth giants Magnum Predators delivered a masterclass in volleyball over the weekend, storming through the competition undefeated to claim the Aqua Darshan Port Shepstone Volleyball Association tournament title.
Playing in Port Shepstone, a vibrant hub for South African volleyball known for its passionate crowds and competitive local circuit, the tournament drew a stacked field of elite teams. Yet, Predators were immense throughout, going through the entire tournament without dropping a single set.
The Chatsworth outfit laid down a heavy marker in the group stage, brushing aside UKZN Academy, Sideout Cobras, and Vortex Challengers with ruthless 2-0 victories. Maintaining their momentum in the knockout rounds, Predators swept past Vortex Seniors 2-0 in the semi-finals before defeating Sideout Cobras 2-0 in the final to seal an emphatic tournament victory.
The triumph in Port Shepstone comes hot on the heels of another major success for the Chatsworth side, who recently claimed the Tongaat Volleyball Association 50th Anniversary Tournament in Tongaat. Winning back-to-back regional titles highlights the squad's momentum and consistency as they continue to compete on the local circuit.
Their dominance was further underlined by a clean sweep of the individual awards. Nigel Jagdeo was named Best Defensive Player, Kevins Mugovera earned Best Blocker, Reolan Ramdeen picked up Best Attacker, and Jonas Mothobi was crowned Most Valuable Player. Team captain Quwin Naidoo rounded off the accolades by taking home the Best Setter award.
The flawless run provides the ideal build-up for Predators as they prepare for Volleyball South Africa’s Champions Cup, the premier club tournament in the country, hosted in Bloemfontein from 21 to 26 September. As two-time former champions, the Chatsworth side is eager to put its name back on the coveted national trophy.
"Winning in Port Shepstone was a massive boost for the squad, especially given how vibrant and competitive the volleyball scene is down there," said team captain Quwin Naidoo.
"Going through the tournament without dropping a single set shows the discipline and chemistry we've been building. The individual awards are fantastic, but the real highlight was seeing how well we clicked as a unit."
With their focus now shifted to the national stage in the Free State, Naidoo emphasised that the team is ready for the ultimate test.
"The Champions Cup is the pinnacle of club volleyball in South Africa. Having won it twice before, we know the standards required," Naidoo added.
"Bloemfontein will bring intense pressure, but this victory proves we are peaking at the right time. We are heading to the tournament with one objective, to bring that trophy back home to Chatsworth."
