AFCON 2027 PAMOJA Qualifiers: DR Congo defeat Zimbabwe to maintain perfect start

Democratic Republic of Congo maintained their perfect start to the 2027 AFCON PAMOJA Qualification journey after defeating Zimbabwe on Monday.

The Leopards secured a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in Harare to make it two wins in as many games and thus take charge of Group E.

Yoane Wissa and Samuel Moutoussamy scored a goal each for Dr Congo in the first half while Marshall Munetsi got the consolation for Zimbabwe towards the end of the game.

Wissa gave the visitors the lead at the half hour mark, capitalizing on a mistake by Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze who failed to collect a cross and the ball fell at the feet of Wissa and he was able to find the back of the net.

Wissa then turned provider, teeing up midfielder Moutoussamy in what was his first goal in the national team colours.

Zimbabwe pulled one back through Munetsi at the end of the game but it was a little too late to salvage at least a point.

The result means DR Congo head Group E with six points from their two games, followed by Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea with three each, while Sierra Leone are yet to pick a point.
