Nyinawusuhene calls for peace & unity in Denkyira state
The newly elevated Denkyira Kronkohene, Nana Kwadapim III, has pledged to promote unity, peace and development in the Denkyira Traditional Area, assuring the Denkyirahene, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV, of his loyalty and commitment to the customs and traditions of the traditional area.
Nana Kwadapim III, who also serves as the Nyinawusuhene, made the pledge after taking the sacred oaths of office and secrecy at a ceremony held at the Denkyira Palace.
The ceremony, characterised by rich Akan customs and traditional pageantry, was witnessed by the Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, and several chiefs and elders of the Denkyira Traditional Council, known as Abrempong.
The oath-taking ceremony formally binds the new chief to the responsibilities of his office, including loyalty to the paramount chief, truthfulness and the protection of confidential matters concerning the stool and the traditional area.
Before his elevation, Nana Kwadapim III served as the divisional chief of Nyinawusu, one of the key divisions of the Denkyira Traditional Area. During the ceremony, Nana Kwadapim III pledged to respond promptly whenever called upon by the Denkyirahene to perform his traditional duties.
Returning the oath on behalf of the Denkyirahene, the Denkyira Akyeamehene, Nana Akomea Ntrakwa III, assured the new Kronkohene of the paramount chief’s continued support, provided he remained loyal and obedient to the Denkyirahene, the Denkyirahemaa and the Abrempong of the traditional council.
Addressing the gathering, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV urged the new Kronkohene to uphold truthfulness, exercise restraint and avoid unnecessary litigation, particularly disputes involving him and his kingmakers.
He also advised Nana Kwadapim III to remain mindful of those who played key roles in his installation and to show them the respect and gratitude they deserved.
The Denkyirahene further encouraged him to demonstrate courage and boldness in discharging his responsibilities, stressing the importance of leadership grounded in integrity and respect for tradition.
He called on chiefs and elders across the traditional area to offer the new Kronkohene the necessary support and cooperation to advance peace, unity and development in Denkyira.
The Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, also congratulated Nana Kwadapim III on his elevation and urged him to remain faithful to the oaths he had taken.
She encouraged him to cultivate cordial relationships with fellow chiefs, serve as a worthy ambassador of the Denkyira Traditional Area and work towards uniting the people.
Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III further urged him to protect the reputation of the traditional area through his conduct and commitment to his new responsibilities.
In his response, Nana Kwadapim III expressed gratitude to the Denkyirahene and the Denkyirahemaa for the confidence reposed in him. He also acknowledged the contributions of the kingmakers of Denkyira Nyinawusu, chiefs, elders and other individuals who supported his elevation and the successful completion of the oath-taking ceremony.
“I bring unity, oneness, and peace to serve in my new role as the Denkyirahene’s Kronkohene,” he said. He appealed to the people to support his leadership, emphasising that age should not be a barrier to contributing positively to the development of the traditional area.
“I will need the support of everyone irrespective of your age as long as you have a positive mindset,” he added.
Beyond his traditional responsibilities, Nana Kwadapim III called on the youth of Nyinawusu and Denkyiraman to desist from drug and illicit substance abuse, warning against practices that could undermine their future and the development of their communities.
He also announced plans to establish an educational endowment fund in consultation with the chiefs and people of Denkyira Nyinawusu.
The proposed fund, he said, would support brilliant but needy students in pursuing higher education and help ease the financial challenges confronting deserving students.
Nana Kwadapim III pledged to serve with dedication, loyalty and respect for Denkyira’s customs and traditions, assuring the Denkyirahene that he would remain committed to the trust and responsibilities entrusted to him.
