The articles, which were quickly removed, appeared to announce that each of the three leading contenders had won football’s most prestigious individual award, triggering widespread speculation on social media about the identity of the eventual winner.

However, organisers moved to clarify the incident, insisting that the premature publications were not an indication of the final results.

“Profiles of certain Ballon d’Or nominees were accidentally published online. These articles had been prepared in advance for every nominee in case they won the award,” the organisers said.

They added that the articles did not reveal the final rankings or the podium, which remained unknown at the time of the statement.

The incident has raised questions about how the awards’ official website handled the pre-written articles, particularly given the global attention surrounding the annual ceremony.

Kane, the Bayern Munich and England striker, Mbappé of Real Madrid, and Barcelona teenager Yamal have all attracted attention in the race for the men’s award following their performances during the season.

The accidental publication has nevertheless left fans debating whether the articles were simply prepared editorial material or whether the mistake could offer any clues about the final outcome.

For now, the organisers have maintained that the leaked articles should not be treated as confirmation of the winner, leaving fans waiting for the official announcement at the ceremony.

So, who will win the 2026 Ballon d’Or — Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal or Kylian Mbappé?
