Israel and Greece Sign Major Air Defense Deal Worth More Than 10 Billion Shekels

Israel and Greece have signed a major defense agreement worth more than 10 billion shekels, under which Greece plans to build a multi-layered air defense network.

The deal further strengthens military cooperation between Athens and Tel Aviv, with Greece expected to integrate advanced air defense systems including David’s Sling, SPYDER and BARAK MX.

The agreement carries added strategic significance given Greece’s proximity to Turkey. Athens and Ankara have long been locked in disputes over maritime boundaries, islands and military influence in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Greece is not only seeking to expand its air defense capabilities. Its deepening military partnership with Israel could also reshape the military balance in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly as Turkey continues to strengthen both its defensive and offensive capabilities.

The integrated defense network is designed to counter a range of threats, including fighter aircraft, drones and different types of missiles, marking a significant step in Greece’s efforts to modernize and reinforce its national air defenses.
