A manhunt is under way in Switzerland after a 22-year-old woman was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a rave in the town of Aarau.
The woman died at the scene, according to police. Four men and another woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
The victim was an Italian national, according to sources who spoke to BBC News. The Italian Embassy in Bern and the Consulate in Zurich are monitoring the situation.
Police said they received a report of shots being fired at the Schachen race track at about 02:30 local time on Sunday. The venue was hosting a techno rave attended by hundreds of people.
Organisers had expected as many as 3,500 people to attend the event.
One DJ who performed at the rave said the shooting happened shortly after their set ended. Another performer, DJ Tekibo, said he had lost a friend in the incident and was still trying to process what had happened.
An eyewitness told Swiss newspaper Blick that he suddenly heard gunshots shortly after the music stopped. He initially believed the sounds were fireworks before being told to hide.

Police spokesman Bernhard Graser said authorities currently had no information about the identity of the suspected attacker or the motive behind the shooting. He added that the suspected perpetrators were not believed to still be in Aarau.
A major police operation was launched following the attack. Armed officers and police in riot gear were deployed around the town, while an armoured vehicle was seen blocking a road near the scene.
Authorities also extended their operation beyond Aarau as a precaution, with armed officers reportedly deployed on roads up to 30km from the town. Police in neighbouring Germany were also reported to be supporting the Swiss investigation.
An area surrounding the race track, a swimming pool and nearby sports fields has been cordoned off, with members of the public urged to stay away.
Police, firefighters and a regional disaster response unit were involved in the emergency operation. A Swiss Army helicopter was also seen surveying the area.
Olivier Grein, whose company Agency Events AG organised the rave, said the company was “shaken” by what happened and would support the police investigation.
Police have appealed to witnesses to provide photographs or video footage that could help investigators establish what happened and identify those responsible.
The shooting comes in a country with one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe, although violent shootings remain relatively rare in Switzerland.
Investigators are continuing to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the motive behind it.
