St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende football team triumphed in the 2026 FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
A spirited 2-1 victory in the final over hosts Morogoro Secondary School at the Jamhuri Stadium inspired the Wakiso district-based school to their 15th gold out of 23 editions played.

Isaac Tibenkana gave Kitende the lead in the 38th minute. Leonard Kigoye scored past his own goalkeeper Denis Mugerwa for Morogoro S.S’ equalizer.
Jordan Tugume beat goalkeeper Felix Ezekiel as Kitende’s lead was restored.
Morogoro S.S completed the game with two players less after violent conduct.
Vincent Rashidi and Emil Maulidi were sent off by Rwandese referee Remy Victor in the 54th and 80th minutes respectively.
Coaches of St Mary’s Kitende football team
Hassan Zzungu was head coach for St Mary’s Kitende with a strong backroom staff that had Edward Gololo, Abel Male and Mubarak Kiberu (goalkeeping coach).
Zzungu attributed this victory to a combination of factors ranging from proper planning, collective display from players, coaches and management staff.
“I am humble for this victory. Team work led us this far,” Zzungu recollected.

The CAF “A” certified tactician guided the team unbeaten right from the group stages to the final, scoring 8 goals and conceding twice.
St Mary’s Kitende opened with a 1-0 win over Kenya’s opposition, St Mary’s Yala before drawing 1-all with Rwanda’s CGF Kigali.
They beat Morogoro S.S 2-0 and won 1-0 over Nsumba S.S in the final group game.
At the same final, Kitende won 6-5 in post match penalties over Mbeya Day S.S following the goalless draw in normal time to book a berth against Morogoro S.S in the final where they gritted their teeth to win 2-1 and claim gold once again.

Zzungu has since dedicated this sweet victory to the Executive Director of St Mary’s Kitende, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.
“I dedicate this victory to our Executive Director, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa for the time and endless support he always renders to us,” he acknowledged.
St Mary’s Kitende also won gold in Basketball (Girls) and Netball (Girls) where Uganda finished second overall behind Kenya.

The 2026 FEASSA Games were boosted by a sponsorship boost of $90,000 from the East African Development Bank (EADB).
The next edition of the FEASSA Games will take place in Rwanda, Kigali.
