Patrice Motsepe Receives R28.5 Million From African Rainbow Minerals

Patrice Motsepe, regarded as one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs in South Africa and a key player in African football, has garnered attention due to news about his compensation from African Rainbow Minerals (ARM). Serving as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and owning the Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, Motsepe reportedly earned R28.5 million as executive chairman from July 2025 to February 2026.

The financial details reveal that his income included various elements, such as his base salary, bonuses linked to performance, and other incentives. His base salary was about R6.7 million, while performance-related bonuses totaled an additional R9 million. Furthermore, he received R12.8 million from incentive payments, culminating in his total compensation for that period at R28.5 million.

Nevertheless, his income from the company is not confined to his directorship. Motsepe holds a significant stake in African Rainbow Minerals, enabling him to gain financially through dividends from the firm’s successes. Given his stake, his potential earnings from dividends may surpass R638 million, reflecting the financial advantages of his investments in the mining sector.

African Rainbow Minerals continues to be a vital entity in South Africa’s mining industry, with interests spanning various mineral resources. The company is reported to have achieved about R16.3 billion in revenue for 2026, underscoring the extent of its operations and its standing within the nation’s economic framework.

Motsepe’s financial achievements illustrate the breadth of his influence across numerous sectors. While he is well known among South Africans for his role in football, especially his ownership of Mamelodi Sundowns and his position at CAF, his business endeavors have positioned him as a significant figure in the corporate landscape.

His success also serves as a testament to the potential that arises from strategic investments, effective business management, and ownership of substantial company shares. Unlike typical employment that primarily relies on a monthly wage, having considerable stockholdings can yield additional riches through dividends and long-term asset appreciation.

The stated R28.5 million remuneration package, along with his anticipated dividend income, has once again highlighted Motsepe’s wealth and business endeavors. His role in both the athletic and corporate realms establishes him as one of South Africa’s foremost business personas, with an impact that goes well beyond the sports arena.
