Kaizer Chiefs Manager Reveals His Son Is A Sundowns Fan
Mandla Ncikazi has returned to Golden Arrows as head coach following his departure from Orlando Pirates and the dismissal of Pitso Dladla. The Durban-based club has decided to bring back a coach who previously enjoyed success with the team as they look to improve their results in the Betway Premiership.
Orlando Pirates had earlier confirmed that Ncikazi had left his position as assistant coach under Abdeslam Ouaddou to take up a head coaching role. The announcement came shortly before Golden Arrows confirmed a change in their technical team.
Dladla was dismissed despite having lost only two matches during his time in charge. He had taken over from Manqoba Mngqithi, who left the club to become head coach of Tanzanian side Young Africans SC.
Arrows made a promising start to the season under Dladla, going unbeaten in their first six matches. Their early results included victories over Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8, giving supporters reason to believe the team could enjoy a competitive campaign.
However, their form later dropped, and the club went five consecutive matches without a win. The management decided to make a change as the team struggled to maintain its early momentum.
Ncikazi will now be expected to help the players regain their confidence and return to winning ways. He is familiar with the club, having previously guided Golden Arrows to a fourth-place finish in the 2020/21 season. That achievement was an important period in the club’s recent history and helped strengthen his reputation as a coach in South African football.
After his successful spell at Arrows, Ncikazi joined Orlando Pirates, where he worked as an assistant coach. His return to Durban gives him another opportunity to prove himself in a head coaching position and help the club improve its league standing.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has revealed that his son is a passionate supporter of Mamelodi Sundowns, despite his own strong association with Amakhosi.
Motaung said his son loves the Tshwane-based club and regularly describes Sundowns as the biggest team in South Africa. His comments offer an interesting glimpse into his family’s football loyalties, given the long-standing rivalry between Chiefs and Sundowns, two of the country’s most prominent clubs in domestic football.
Chiefs and Sundowns have competed against each other for major honours over the years, with both clubs attracting large numbers of supporters. Sundowns have enjoyed considerable success in domestic competitions, while Chiefs remain one of the most popular teams in the country. Motaung’s comments highlight how football preferences can differ within a family, even when relatives have strong connections to rival clubs.
