Officers of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be a psychoactive drug into the facility.
The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a routine screening at the entrance of the custodial centre.
The woman had reportedly visited an inmate on death row when correctional officers discovered a sachet of Milo beverage allegedly containing substances suspected to be “colos.”
The suspected contraband was detected during the standard screening process at the facility’s main gate.
The statement said the suspect was subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers for their alertness and professionalism.
He reiterated the Service’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and other criminal activities within custodial facilities.
Adesina stressed that correctional centres were established for the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates and must not be allowed to become channels for the circulation of illicit substances.
The Command also warned members of the public against attempting to compromise the security of correctional facilities by introducing prohibited items, saying anyone found engaging in such acts would face the law.
