Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Comoros 2-0 in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Friday.
Goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu in the second half gave the nine-time African champions a comfortable advantage ahead of Tuesday’s return leg at the same venue.
After a goalless first half, Alozie broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, finishing past Comoros goalkeeper Aicha Said following a headed pass from Gift Monday.
The Super Falcons doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Kanu rose to head home a corner delivered by Jennifer Echegini.
Nigeria had dominated possession and created several opportunities in the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough, with Said making crucial saves to keep Comoros in the contest.
The visitors, however, struggled to contain the Super Falcons after the interval as the Nigerian side increased the pressure and converted two of their chances.
The victory gives Nigeria a two-goal cushion heading into the second leg on Tuesday, October 13, when both teams will meet again in Ikenne.
