Tupac Shakur murder: Duane Davis sentenced 40 years to life

Duane Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, closing a case that remained unsolved for decades,*** Cape {town} Etc* **reports.
A Las Vegas judge imposed the sentence on Tuesday, 13 October, after Davis, known as ‘Keffe D’, was convicted of first-degree murder in August. He will receive credit for time served, CBS News reported.
Davis, 63, asked the court to return items seized from his home, including photographs. He also said, ‘I’m going to appeal this case, for sure’, Reuters reported.
The sentence comes in a case that has loomed over hip-hop since Shakur was shot at a Las Vegas traffic light on 7 September 1996. The 25-year-old rapper died six days later.
Prosecutors said Davis helped organise the drive-by shooting after a fight involving his nephew and members of Shakur’s entourage. He was not accused of firing the shots, and the gunman has never been conclusively identified, Reuters reported.
Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa, addressed the court, reflecting the killing’s impact on his family. Judge Carli Kierny said the world had not forgotten the rapper.
The case remained open for nearly 30 years before Davis was arrested in 2023.
