Oceana forecasts up to 56% increase in annual earnings
• SHANIA LAZARUS
OCEANA Group expects its annual headline earnings per share to increase by between 46% and 56%, supported by stronger fishmeal and fish oil sales in the United States, improved wild-caught seafood performance and lower interest costs.
In a trading statement issued on 27 October, the seafood group says headline earnings per share for the year ended 30 September 2026 are expected to reach between 825 cents and 880 cents, up from 564.8 cents in the previous financial year.
Earnings per share are forecast to rise by between 45% and 55%, from 562.4 cents to between 815 cents and 870 cents.
The group attributed the expected improvement primarily to higher operating profit and lower interest costs.
Its United States fishmeal and fish oil operations and wild-caught seafood segment recorded stronger performances, supported by higher sales volumes and improved prices.
Lucky Star Foods also made a solid contribution despite limited inventory, helping offset weaker results from the African fishmeal and fish oil segment.
The expected earnings growth comes as the group prepares to release its full-year financial results on or around 26 November.
Oceana, which is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange under the code OCE and on the Namibian Securities Exchange under OCG, says the financial information and forward-looking statements in the trading statement had not been reviewed or reported on by its auditors.
The trading statement was issued in Cape Town on 27 October.
