The music industry is unfair to women –Wendy Shay

Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has raised concerns about the treatment of female artistes in the music industry, saying recent information she received has left her particularly worried.

The ‘Bedroom Commando’ hitmaker took to X to express her frustration, claiming that the industry does not give women the same level of support. “This music Industry does Not favour women AT ALL !!!” she wrote.

Wendy Shay suggested that her concerns had been reinforced by something she had recently heard, describing the situation as more serious than she had previously thought. “I always knew this but after hearing what I just heard it’s SERIOUS !!!” she added.

The singer did not reveal what she had heard or provide details about the issue behind her comments. Her cryptic post has since sparked questions online, with some social media users calling for clarity.

Born Wendy Asiamah Addo in 1996, Wendy Shay attended Morning Star School and St Martin de Porres in Accra before relocating to Stuttgart, where she continued her education from grade 7 (JHS 1). She also attended a music school in Bernhausen in Germany.

Wendy Shay is a trained nurse by profession. Her interest in music began when she was four years old, and she enrolled in a music school in Burghausen, Germany.

She was introduced to music by Mohit Records manager Bullet and signed in January, 2018 after the untimely death of label mate Ebony Reigns.
