Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has called out the finger-pointing at Manchester United amid the growing pressure on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has seen the Red Devils hit a major roadblock during the 2026-27 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford under Red Devils boss Michael Carrick.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has overseen a turbulent season so far, as the Red Devils have only secured one Premier League win from eight matches.
However, Harry Redknapp does not feel that Ineos are all at fault for everything at the Premier League club after he also took aim at Carrick’s United first-team squad.
Harry Redknapp is fifty-fifty on Lisandro Martinez’s criticism of Man Utd director of football Jason Wilcox
Lisandro Martinez became one of the standout reasons that Ineos was thrust into the limelight amid the Red Devils’ woeful season. The 28-year-old Argentine defender called out Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime in a bombshell interview after Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid earlier this month.
Martinez pulled no punches towards Ineos over their lack of summer investment in reinforcing key positions in the Manchester United squad, including taking aim at director of football Jason Wilcox. Following his interview after Man Utd’s Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid, Martinez issued a public apology in a statement and was reportedly fined for the comments.
Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, Harry Redknapp admitted that he agreed with the comments that Martinez made around Jason Wilcox and Co for underdelivering on summer transfers. However, the 79-year-old former Tottenham manager equally called out Martinez for being ‘part of the problem’ for his performances this season.
“I agree 100 [per cent] with what he said,” Redknapp said.
“They haven’t signed good enough players. There are a lot of average players playing for Man United, but no, I don’t agree with him coming out (and saying it in public).”
The ex-Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers boss added: “It’s all right pointing the finger at the rest of them, but he’s part of that problem. He hasn’t exactly been incredible.
“If he’d been Harry Kane or somebody who’s on another level, maybe he’s got a right to have an opinion like that and voice it. But coming from him it didn’t ring great with me.”
Redknapp’s words strike more of a chord after Man Utd’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Michael Carrick received an emotional reception from United fans after the full-time whistle, as the Red Devils legend’s managerial reign hit another all-time low.
However, the minute that Carrick disappeared out of sight down the Old Trafford tunnel on Sunday, the Red Devils supporters showed their true feelings towards the United players. The reaction of fans after Man Utd’s Premier League encounter with Bournemouth was a telling sign that Ineos are not all at fault.
While Carrick has escaped the firing line of fans, Ineos, the Glazers and the rest of the United first-team squad are being blamed for the woes of the season so far. Redknapp is right that Ineos have let Man Utd down through their lack of proper player recruitment in the summer. However, he is equally right to point out that Martinez and Co are culpable for their own faults in United’s tragic campaign.
